Original title: 故人嘆Lyricist: Fangfang Hu (胡芳芳)

The sandstorm spreads, disturbing the sunny skies. I surrender this true heart to the shining moon
Looking past the city, I see clashing metal --- another worldly disaster
Alone in the royal palace, you are not what you once were --- who's that I hear swallowing his sobs?
Your dear friend had always been right in front of you, no questions nor complaints
You originally wanted to live forever, to leave a legacy lasting thousands of generations
Your dear friend bid you farewell and left to the west. You'd said nothing --- what's there to explain?
It ruined your plans of unifying the land. Who's going to accompany you now?
War was never the solution, you have to get the people's hearts first
Your dear friend, with white, balding hair, scarred by this life, isn't asking for a second chance
He only wishes for you to lower your war flags, but you denied it even with the threat of his own life
In the end, the castle walls come crashing down --- I see an ocean of smoke and fire from high above
Not able to do anything, with the ground covered in corpses, your dear friend's heart has left
With a whisk of a sleeve you kneel down and grant the world freedom with a jade cup in hand
No one sings for your longevity now, only your dear friend is there, watching as tears stream down your face
You, sorrowful and alone, pull out your sword, as if your death will be the end of it all
But every person is born with certain responsibilities --- it's impossible to have a happy ending with anyone

T/N: The gender of the protagonist is not clearly stated, though people have thought this song is based loosely on a real historical event, in which case the protagonist should be an emperor's official with whom he had a close relationship.
is this a novel??
ReplyDeletei see you wrote a song so i'm a little confused.
anyway if it is a bl novel then count me in. i kinda love novels^^
No its not a novel D: sorryz <3
Deleteah~ too bad.
Deletewell it is very good anyway.
i'm writing a story right now and i want to make it BL but i'm not quite sure since this gender isn't what i usually write.
this can give me some inspiration for my story.
i don't know if i make it short or long but what ever it may be worth the try.
thank you for posting it is amazing i keep reading over and over~
Wow (//o//) *flustered* I'm glad you like it and please let me read the story once it's done!~
Deletei'll be sure to show it you^^
ReplyDeleteI really like the last sentence: "it's impossible to have a happy ending with anyone". It's kind of realistic because life is not a completely rosy picture... This songs makes me think of a very powerful king who seemed to have everything except for a chance to live happily with his love. Anyway, Winkyshi's songs have good plots and I'm waiting to see more of your translation ^^
ReplyDeleteThank you :))) I was really touched by this song too! That's why i translated it ~
DeleteI agree! But from the lyrics it could have been a lover or a friend, as the word 故人 can mean both. In any case, it's a sad song :/
Thanks for translating. :-)
ReplyDeleteYw :))
Deletethanks for translating and is Winky詩 (from the tag) the one that sings this ever so soothing and beautiful 音频怪物 (or was it 相守)? (not sure I got the title or singer's name correct though Dx) gosh how i want to know what the song's about.
ReplyDeleteanyway, thanks again! ^^
I believe a singer called Josou sang the regular parts and Winky sang the Peking opera part about two-thirds into the song, though I'm not quite sure so I only included him.
DeleteYou're welcome :)
